Training Policy Statement

1. Induction Training

1.1 Golden Shield will provide induction training in matters relating to conditions of employment and our organizational procedures for all employees. This training is additional to the basic job training you have received in your induction, before commencement of employment and must be undertaken before you commence your new assignment.

1.2 Basic Job Training

All employees engaged in security duties will be provided with basic job training, being them full or part time employees, including seasonal and casual employees. This basic job training shall be provided before commencement of operational duties.

This training will be provided by a qualified and/or experienced staff member and will be carried out in an equipped room, conducive for effective training. The training will take approximately two working days and cover the following key subjects:

a) introduction to the security industry;
b) role and responsibilities of a security officer;
c) fire safety;
d) health and safety;
e) dealing with events, including items such as potentially violent situations;
f) the law;
g) key management and inventory;
h) assignment instructions and patrols;
i) communications – booking on/off and check calls;
j) reporting procedures/incidents;
k) navigational skills/sight map reading

All training carried out will be recorded and a training record detailing the staff members trained, including the provision and performance of the staff during the training.

1.3 Assignment Specific Training

All employees assigned to a new site must be accompanied by an experienced officer, who should carry out assignment training on the first day. It is also part of our training policy that all employees transferring between assignments must be given on the job training appropriate to the assignment and the needs of the training and the customer.

It is also part of our training policy that all employees who have spent three months in our employment will undergo a competence test or appraisal, to be assessed by a suitably qualified or experienced supervisor or manager. The details of the appraisal or competence test will be recorded on the company training records and the employee’s file.

2. Response Centre Training

2.1 We would ensure that in the area of key holding services, training and instructions of response centre staff will include the following:

a) outline of response centre operations;
b) detailed explanation of duties;
c) radio and telephone procedures;
d) documentation and recording procedures;
e) emergency procedures;
f) location and use of response centre records;
g) explanation of response officers’ roster;
h) explanation of response centre staff’s roster.

2.2 Specialist Training

We will aim to provide training on the use of and procedures associated with specialised equipment, eg intruder alarm panels and specialist key equipment.

2.3 Take Over Training

In the event of TUPE Regulations being applied, or any other mergers or takeovers, we will ensure that all employees from the new company have their training needs identified and training given within our specific policy, as contained in this document. The aim is to provide a practical, work related experience, as well as qualifications for any consideration.

2.4 Refresher Training

We believe that the effectiveness of all employees will be achieved through a continuous refresher training programme and effective monitoring. The appraisal method is designed to establish if the effectiveness of an employee is unsatisfactory, so that refresher or remedial training can be provided by a suitably qualified person, to ensure the employee meets the company’s desired objectives.
2.5 Contingency Training

We will undertake contingency training in the event of a change in methods, procedures or legislation to ensure that all officers and staff attain a proficient level of suitable qualified skills.

In such instance, it is the company’s policy to undertake such training before implementation of any such changes come into effect.

2.6 Vocational Training

We encourage employees to undertake vocational training and to achieve formally recognised qualifications in security disciplines or related occupational skills and standards.

2.7 Training Records

Again, it is a prerequisite of our training policy that all training provided will be accurately recorded on a form specific for the purpose, signed by the trainee and counter signed by the trainer. Training records will be reviewed annually by the organisation, to ensure that appropriate training has been delivered.

2.8 Suppliers and/or Sub-Contractor Training

As part of our continuous development and enhanced policy on training, all our suppliers and sub-contractors will submit on request to ourselves for inspection, their training records which will comply with our training objectives and ensure that our policy on continued development is maintained, as stated in 1.1-2.8 above.

3. Qualifications of Supplier Personnel

It is our policy to satisfy ourselves that suppliers’ personnel that have access to our customer sites and/or confidential records, are:

a) satisfactorily groomed, in accordance with BS 7858;
b) satisfactorily experienced and trained to undertake the work involved;
c) adequately insured;
d) have individually signed a confidentiality agreement, relating to disclosure of customer and organisation confidential information and/or materials;
e) agree to report immediately to ourselves, any alleged or actual contravention of the law, evidence of items as stated above, should be retained by the organisation
